We are working with leading designers to create a space which minimises our impact on the world around us. We are leaving no stone unturned in our search for the most appropriate material to form the basis of our structure.
Social Spaces for Social People
Circular spaces are social spaces and have formed the centrepoint for communities from many cultures over many years.
There is a reason for this – they are inclusive and friendly spaces and feel intuitively safe and social.
We didn’t appreciate this until we stayed in one and found it to be a liberating experience- so we built a timber Yurt at the bottom of the garden.
Everyone who visits it loves it- and we want to share that experience.
Connect with the Environment
Empirical evidence suggests that natural shapes allow people to connect to the natural environment.
We want to go one step further- our design will express itself and help the user feel a part of the environment in which we live.
Our timber Yurts are designed for you to feel the benefits, freedom and pure chill factor of off- grid living- even if that means just disappearing to the bottom of the garden to be free of the technology for a few hours a week.
Led by Design
For us it is all about minimising the impact on the environment and part of this is effective design which maximises sustainability and minimises carbon emissions. This means we are seeking a solution that can be built without the need for cranes or heavy equipment and requires minimal whole of life maintenance.
This means we can install a Wilderness timber Yurt anywhere without the need for the disruption of cranes and equipment.
We have teamed up with the gifted designers at Expedition Engineering to develop the best solution we can find.
All Year Round
After spending time in a traditional Yurt in the British climate we rapidly worked out that there has to be a more appropriate solution for the temperate (damp) climate- where we can leave the space for months and there is no need for maintenance or airing out.
Tailor Your Space
We appreciate that everyone has their own taste and style so we offer a blank canvas for you to tailor to your own needs- or you can choose to purchase the blank canvas and do it at your leisure.
Whatever your taste the minimum you will receive will be an elegant, environmentally friendly space ready for you to make your own.
Fuss Free
Once you engage with us we propose to take care of everything right through to the installation of your completed stand alone Wilderness timber Yurt with no need for you to engage others- be it for planning approval or groundworks.
About Us
Chris was raised in the South Island of New Zealand where closeness to nature is in the DNA (and also unavoidable). Living in the North East of England is a close second.
We want to share the feeling on relaxation, freedom and closeness to nature that comes from staying in a remote mountain hut- and want to make it accessible to as many people as possible as we believe an appreciation of the world around us will help to build a more sustainable word.
Staying in a traditional Yurt in the North of England came close to replicating that feeling- but didn’t feel appropriate to the local environment. We believe that any space should be fuss free, fun and easy to own. That is what we aim to achieve with our timber clad Wilderness Yurts.
